A high-end, biophilic design plant installation for OpusApeiro’s offices in Bristol
  • Our brief was to create a biophilic plant installation throughout the company’s offices
  • We installed a bespoke 15m² living wall with on-brand flowers, berries and thistle heads
  • 13 troughs with Aspidistra elatior plants provided a wall between desks and a walkway
  • Hanging foliage included design-led plant balls which the client particularly liked

Inleaf were asked to create a biophilia-led plant installation in a new office space in Bristol for software developers, OpusApeiro.

The client wanted the biophilia inspired interior design scheme to run throughout the office fit out. Biophilic design is based on nature and bringing the outside in. It maximises daylight and uses natural materials. Businesses embrace biophilic design because it enhances wellbeing through the emotional connection to nature. Living plants play a vital part in biophilic design. For more information on biophilia, take a look at our article that explains its origins and impact.

For this Bristol biophilic installation, the client asked for a high density of living plants throughout the office space. We designed a planting scheme with a mix of potted plants, a living wall, hanging foliage and troughs.

The client wanted a living wall in their ‘downtime’ space as a backdrop for the seating area, kitchen and diner. They wanted lush greenery with a nod to their branding. To represent their purple, blue and pink brand colours in the bespoke 15m² living wall, we used flowers, berries and thistle heads.

We created a trough wall using 13 troughs with Aspidistra elatior plants to provide a stylish barrier between the operational team and a walkway. The client included on-brand purple uplights from the desks to make a feature of the trough wall.

Tall, imposing plants were required across the office to create focal points and break up the plain walls. For this we used striking specimen plants that provided an impressive display. For tall plants in the boardroom we installed two large Ficus Lyrathas in grey oversized pots.

Throughout the offices, we dotted hanging foliage from the ceiling, which included our hanging plant spheres. The client was particularly impressed with how effective these were.

Elsewhere we installed cabinet top planters, window troughs, and leafy overhanging plants on tables and surfaces.

The client was delighted with the installation, and particularly impressed by the quality of the plants and pots. They said it was a pleasure working with us on this project due to our speed of turnaround and the design concepts we offered when planning their fit-out.
