- Inleaf carried out the complete overhaul of six living walls and a central irrigation system.
- Walls were replanted with carefully selected resilient plants, suited to the conditions.
- Inleaf continues to provide ongoing maintenance to ensure the walls thrive long-term.
Inleaf recently completed the overhaul and improvements to an existing living wall installation at a high-end residential development in Crouch End, London. The building features an impressive collection of four exterior and two interior living walls, with a centralised, multi-zone irrigation system providing automatic irrigation.
The client tasked Inleaf with reviewing and upgrading the existing living walls and installation, and renewing the planting scheme.
A microclimate study was carried out to select the correct species to suit each living wall location’s specific conditions. We also upgraded and modernised the site’s irrigation controls and added a more sophisticated remote monitoring system.
Following a microclimate survey, we added a bespoke mix of resilient plants across the four exterior walls. The palette included: Vinca minor ‘Alba’, Vinca minor, Pachysandra terminalis, Hedera helix ‘Shamrock’, Lonicera nitida ‘Maigrun’, Euphorbia amygdaloides ‘Robbiae’, Liriope muscari, Carex morrowii ‘Ice Dance’, and Polystichum setiferum. A mix of bushy, climbing, tufted, and mat-forming species creates a variety of colours, textures, and year-round interest.
Inleaf also replanted two interior living walls, chosing a vibrant selection of tropical species to thrive in their distinct light conditions. These included Philodendron scandens, Epipremnum aureum, Asplenium nidus, Chamaedorea elegans, Chlorophytum comosum ‘Laxum’, Monstera adansonii ‘Monkey Mask’, Phlebodium aureum ‘Blue Star’, and Codiaeum variegatum ‘Petra’. This mix combines trailing, climbing, and bushy forms creating verdant indoor features.
As part of the works, Inleaf renewed and modernised the central irrigation system. Renewing or replacing key components including valves, fittings, and pumps and installing a more advanced control unit. The system now delivers water and nutrients efficiently to each living wall with each wall being monitored remotely.
Inleaf continues to provide active maintenance for the development. Combining regular horticultural visits, visual checks, and remote monitoring to ensure the living walls remain healthy and continue to thrive.
This project demonstrates how Inleaf’s expertise can support and enhance existing installations helping to maximise their visual impact, sustainability, and long-term success.
