Living and artificial plants for a new Union office in London

Living and artificial plants for a new Union office in London
  • We added greenery into our clients new office
  • Living, artificial and preserved plants were used in this installation
  • Initially, the client incorporated only a limited number of plants into their new office. However their expectations were exceeded, subsequent  phases of plant installations  were added

Trade union Prospect approached Inleaf to bring office and exterior plants to their London office. Having recently moved into the space they wanted to add the benefits of plants and greenery to ensure it was a welcoming and productive environment.

Prospects’ new office is located in an industrial style building with exposed brick, metal fixtures, large windows and much of the decor is white. This gave us a blank canvas to work with.  Adding living plants softened the industrial look to create a more relaxing environment.

In phase one, the objective was to enhance the amount of privacy in our client’s office and add greenery throughout the office.  The client had cabinets on the ends of banks of desks with empty planters . We waterproof lined these planters and planted a mixture of living plants such as Sansevieria, Aglonemas and Epipremnums. This extra height helped  to divide Prospects’ open plan office creating a more private working space for the employees.

For phase two, we began to revamp Prospects reception areas, creating a more inviting space for visitors. We achieved this by adding bespoke troughs to the large seating area. The troughs contained carefully selected plants to suit the light levels, much like those used in the office, such as Sansivierias, which not only added a touch of greenery but also helped tie the whole design together.

For phase three we were tasked with a brief to incorporate artificial greenery into an existing bronze mesh ceiling fixture located in our clients kitchen area, where we selected a combination of trailing plants such as Epipremnum, along with a variety of larger trailing artificial plants. The use of artificial plants in this area helps to provide a more durable and low maintenance solution.

Lastly, our client had an outdoor seating area located on the ground floor looking onto an uninspiring courtyard. To add privacy, we had bespoke planters made to fit on top of their low wall, and we specified evergreen plants to add all year round interest. We used a variety of living plants with differing heights and textures, further increasing the amount of privacy in their outdoor seating area and adding to the biodiversity of the area.

Our client was thrilled with the outcome of each phase, resulting in them expanding the project from its original single phase to four phases. We continue to collaborate closely with them and are looking forward to adding more plants in the future.
